Note that many/most files available for download are often not actually on any Merp.com servers, but instead are freely downloadable from the various public mirror servers worldwide, merp.com often merely links to them. Merp.com has no control over the content, licensing, or safety of those files, so please use careful judgment when downloading anything from the Internet.

Merp.com is a completely volunteer run, decentralized, non-business entity, non-profit (no revenue of any kind, all costs covered by volunteers out of their own pockets) network of sites and services dedicated to fans who like to role play in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth.

Merp.com is NOT an official/approved/endorsed or commercial site. It is neither supported, endorsed, approved, by any of the Tolkien copyright holders past, present or future (ICE (Iron Crown Enterprises),Decipher, Cubicle7, Sophisticated Games, Tolkien Enterprises, aka now Middle-earth Enterprises a Saul Zaentz Company, Tolkien Estate, New Line Cinema,Hasbro or who knows how many others of the innumerable various Tolkien-related license holders..

Merp.com is purely a community hub/portal for a community of fan/hobby sites world-wide. If there is content actually ON our servers (not just linked to) that is YOURS, as a specific unconflicted copyright holder, who wishes something to be removed, please feel free to email the volunteer team: webmaster at merp dot com. Our goal is to help encourage the interest and growth of the Tolkien-based  role-playing gaming community, and not cause harm to it in any way.

This site is not in any way, associated with or endorsed by any Tolkien copyright/trademark/servicemark/ip holder. We are a decentralized team of international volunteers helping out the global community.

NOTE: Many of the downloadable files are not downloaded from merp.com. Instead many of the downloads merely link to the files all over the world at mirror/archive/other sites kindly donated by individuals and ISPs around the globe. The good news is that the COMMUNITY makes these resources available. Always be careful when downloading (especially windows and mac users) and have up to date antivirus software. Since the files are not on our servers we can not guarantee they are safe. There is the possibility that in your jurisdiction there could be legal issues with you acquiring or having some of the content available for download, whereas other countries have no issue with the exact same content. You need to check your local laws before downloading to verify you are not in violation if you download.

You have to always be careful with anything you download from the Internet of course. We've NOT heard of anyone ever having any problems/dangers from any of the files though.

From about 2002 to 2007, Decipher had acquired the licensing rights from Tolkien Enterprises to make gaming products based on The Lord of the Rings movies and books. They call it The Lord of the Rings Role Playing Game, abbrieviated as LotR RPG. Decipher chose not to renew their license agreement around 2007.

In 2011, Cubicle 7 and Sophisticated Games acquired the license for creating a new Tolkien-based Role-playing game.
